At what age should children’s eyes first be tested?

Health is very important, and we have to make sure that our children get the best possible care. It is not easy to take your child to an optometrist or an ophthalmologist, especially when they are little. When is it too early to think about having your child’s eyes tested?

First of all, the eye test for children is not the least bit painful. Many parents postpone this moment as long as possible because they don’t want to create discomfort or anxiety for their children. Doctors know how important it is to keep the child comfortable and happy while having their eyes tested

As for when to take your child to an optometrist for the first time, there isn’t one particular and suitable age. You have to remember that the earlier you detect a problem, the sooner it can be corrected. If you suspect your child is having trouble seeing the television, reading a book, or printing on a line, you should take them to have an eye test. Some suggest having your child’s eyesight tested before they begin to print and read. If you notice jerky eye movements, squinting, excessive blinking, watery or red eyes, a visit to an optometrist or eye specialist should not be postponed.

The good news is that most problems can be solved easily; the child may only have to wear glasses for a few years to have his sight corrected.
