Sun protection: how to protect your kids from greatest cause of skin cancer

The fact is not hidden that exposure to UV radiations emitted by sunlight is one of the most common factors responsible for skin cancer. We may not know but according to some of the most successful surveys scientists reveal that most among us are unaware that they pose risk of the skin problems by exposure to sun. Children skin is very sensitive to the sun and they pose more risk of getting affected by the UV radiations.

As per the instructions by Skin Cancer Foundation, infants should be kept away from direct sunlight as they have melanin in low levels in their skin.  Melanin is responsible for pigments to the skin, eyes and hair thus protects against the sun and as they have low levels of the same, they are very sensitive to UV radiation. As per to protect their children, skin care foundation recommend parents to take their infants in a stroller with cover to ensure protection from sunlight.

Infants should be dressed very lightly and arms and legs should be covered properly, also their face ears and neck should be covered with hat or bonnet. We may think of trying sunscreen as to protect kids from direct exposure to the sun, it is not recommended for infant’s skin.

As child grows it becomes more difficult for the parents to protect their kids from exposure to the sun but with proper knowledge and tools they can always achieve the same.
